3-Week Challenge-Personal Work- A Cold Day in Tartarus

A Cold Day in Tartarus

My first personal project in 7 years! A Cold Day In Tartarus is a love letter to the God of War franchise. Its the game that made me want to pursue a career in game development and God of War 3 is still my favorite game of all time hence why I included the Chain of Balance in the background. I gave myself a challenge to complete this level of reimagining Hades but frozen over by Kratos, finishing it in 2 weeks but it took 3 weeks to complete the level. All level design, concept, layout, world building, materials, lighting and assets were created by myself. This is a level in shippable state utilizing tiling materials combined with module kits baked down with the intention of using detail maps, masks, vertex blending and world aligned materials. All the materials and props were sculpted. Each material was authored in order to meet the pixel per square meter that God of War is now known for in this generation of the franchise. Even though UE5 helps us utilize Nanite for high density meshes I still wanted to rely on more performant workflows while still utilizing nanite and nanite tessellation for height blending between materials. Geo was kept very simple to free up space for the level to run properly. It was a tough level to complete in 3 weeks but hopefully it still turned out well!
